I would recommend using nodemcu_float_0.9.6-dev_20150406.
There are problems with nodemcu_float_0.9.5_20150318.

Don't use the march builds. They have major memory problems.

good to hear you solved it, it can sometimes be tricky with all the different firmware's available and the unexpected responses that can be produced
