Hi guys, I'm new to the ESP8266. Do you know if it's possible to program it to scan for WiFi networks?

Also, is it possible to do anything in places where you don't have the WiFi password - in other words, is it pretty much useless outside of your house? Thanks!

Well ESP can act as a WiFi access point, so you can always create your own closed network if you want.

And yes, it can scan for other networks.

Hey Alex, thanks for that. I was wondering if it's possible for ESP8266 to discover other WiFi signals to send an emergency signal. For instance, if I left my ESP8266 device somewhere outside, is it possible for it to send me a message using a neighborhood WiFi connection, or is it gone forever?

You might like to look into DNS tunneling. Maybe it'll work for you
