ESP8266 Range

hey, i was wondering if somebody here would like to share there experience whit the range of ESP8266. I just got mine programed but i have gotten really crappy range i litteraly have to stand right next to my router to get it to connect.

So i was wondering if that is the norm.

What module are you using? I have had good luck with the esp-01 and the esp-12.

Here no problems too, using both esp01 and esp201, even at longer distances. Having said that, I rarely reach a speed higher than 12 Mbps, even close to the access point. I guess that is caused by the low cost analog part of the esp8266, I think the SNR isn't up to par with more expensive/larger designs. Especially 802.11n is very sensitive for analog signal quality and processing. You might have more success switching the PHY to 802.11g. I would not recommend switching to 802.11b, because it has a negative impact on all stations on the same channel.
