I'm on OSX 10.9.5 and got mad with my ESP's (01 and 03). Upload seemed to work without problems, even a simple serial response code is working.
BUT: Any(!) WIFI example sketch won't work and the ESP hangs on start. Using the complete same configuration on parallels/Windows 7 everything is working perfect! So it's not a hardware issue and I use the same /hardware/ on both IDE's
More Details:
On OSX I got the message (with 74880 baud):
'rst cause:1, boot mode:(3,xxxx)'
and then nothing
So I guess there is something wrong with the uploader (ESPtool or script) on OSX. (I tried out 3 different USB/TTL/FTDI converter, and all of them are working perfect on other projects on OSX).

Ok, so the "ESPTOOL" must be shown up in the "Programmers", but it don't.

sandeepmistry github (release 0.0.5) on IDE 1.6.3 fixed it!
So the precompiled OSX release is outdated and not working.
