Not sure if you got this problem solved yet, but if it uses a Puya flash chip try this link to GitHub... https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino/issues/4061.

Scroll down to my post with ESP.zip. It is a modified ESP.cpp file that works with the Puya. It is not my work, but that of other contributors to that thread.

I have been using it without issue. One caveat... I flash using Arduino as ISP. When I flash non-Puya chips after the flash begins, I quickly click and release the reset button on the Arduino. With the Puya chips I have to hold the reset down for the entire flash process.
