I am facing, exactly the same problem. Inspite I did not connected any power supply as in your case. Did you happen to resolve it. Please suggest any clue if you did so

Hi, this is a bit late, but I believe the screen you are using does not have its own reset pin, hence, you should change the example code provided by Adafruit, changing the line "#define OLED_RESET 4" to "#define OLED_RESET -1"
